Mrs. Jane Duiven

Personal Profile

Hello!  My name is Jane Duiven, and I truly feel it’s a privilege to serve God here at Timothy.  I am currently teaching third grade, and have also taught kindergarten, first and second grades.  I have two children who graduated from Timothy:  my son, Matt, is a nuclear med tech at Loyola University Hospital, and my daughter, Megan, teaches second grade at a local Christian school (Megan is married to one of my former kindergarten students!).  My husband, Bob, is retired, and we are members of Christ Church of Oak Brook.

Professional Profile

My parents were firmly committed to Christian education, and I attended a small Christian school in north central Iowa, and then went on to graduate from Pella Christian High School.  I received my BA in Education from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and began my teaching career at Timothy’s Western Springs campus in 1969 (which means that I have taught in each of the last 5 decades!).  In 1998, I earned my MA in Curriculum and Instruction, from the University of Illinois.

Philosophical Profile

I firmly believe that each child in my class is a special and unique creation of God.  Each one comes with gifts, strengths, and challenges.  My job is to find the best methods to enable every student to be a successful learner.  It’s my hope that my classroom is a safe place for each child to learn, explore, and grow spiritually during the year.  I pray daily for the students in my classroom, naming each one in my personal morning devotions.  One of the most rewarding things about serving here at Timothy has been to have students who are children of former students.
