Mr. Ryan DeKoekkoek

Personal Profile

I was born and raised in sunny Southern California, Chino to be exact.  Both of my parents still live in Chino and I have one brother and one sister.  I am the youngest of three, so I guess you can say I was spoiled or was a “mama’s boy”.  I enjoy sports very much, whether that be playing or coaching them.  I am avid Lakers, USC Trojans,  Los Angeles Angels and Bears fan.  So, basically I support winners!!  Also, I love to travel when giving the chance, if I have enough money to do so.  On August 4, 2007 I became a married man and wed Laura Moreau.

Professional Profile

I graduated from Dordt College in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Teaching.  After graduating from Dordt, I spent my first two years of teaching in Tokyo, Japan.  I enjoyed my teaching experience, let alone my time in Japan.  I then joined Timothy Christian Schools in the fall of 2003, where I have been ever since.  This is my 4th year at Timothy and I enjoy the school and community very much.  I coach Frosh/Soph Boys Soccer and am the new Girls Varsity Basketball Coach for Winter 2007.

Philosophical Profile

My philosophy of education is centered on God’s infaliable word.  I feel that all areas of education are to be taught from a Biblical perspective.  There is no area in which God does not cover.  This world is His and we as Christian brothers and sisters need to instruct each student in the knowledge that everything belongs to God.

In reference to Physical Education/Health I look at three key points in which I base my overall view of the students:  1) each student is divinely made in the image of Christ.  Any student you teach whether they realize it or not is made in Christ’s image.  We are fearfully and wonderfully made and it would be very dis-heartening if we did not acknowledge our Maker.  2)  Our bodies are a temple to the Lord.  In knowing and fully understanding this point, we need to make thoughtful and wise choices regarding our physical fitness.  If we do not take care of our bodies in the realm of Physical Fitness, we are much more prone to diseases, swelling of the joints and aging faster, just to name a few.  Finally, 3)   encourage each student’s gift or talent.  Each student has been blessed with a gift/talent that we need to foster and encourage that student to use it for God’s glory.  It is silly to not use a gift that the Lord has given you.

This is the general make-up of my philosophy, but not all of it in its entirety.  Issues that I stress beyond this are the TEAM principle, striving to achieve wellness in Physical, Mental, Emotional, Social and Spiritual areas of their lives.  It is important to acknowledge God’s hand in our lives and give glory to Him.  In teaching, this allows me to openly profess and minister to the students of God’s Kingdom.
