Mr. Mike Engbers

Personal Profile
Hi, my name is Mike Engbers. I teach Science and Social Studies in 6th grade at Timothy Christian. My wife Karla (teacher at Chicago West Side Christian) and I are blessed with four children; Sarah and Joe (in college) and Rebekah and Jon (at TCHS).
I enjoy traveling, meeting people, and seeing new places. I enjoy all sports (Sox Fan) and other activities.
Professional Profile
After attending Southwest Christian and Chicago Christian High School, I attended Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. Calvary Academy in South Holland, Illinois, was my first place of employment. I taught 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades over a ten year span. For the last twenty-one years I’ve taught 6th grade at Timothy. I received my Masters from National College of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. I have attended national conventions for Social Studies and Science as well as local conferences. I believe the best part of teaching is interaction with the students and seeing them grow.
Philosophical Profile
"The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it" Psalms 24:1(NIV).
Since it all belongs to Him, when we teach about it, shouldn’t it include Him? How can you truly teach and not include God?
Each child is a gift to parents. Parents allow us at Timothy to teach them. Each child is unique and special. I try to meet each one where he/she is at and move forward. Education is not just “book learning”. It also includes physical, social, and spiritual developmentāthe whole
child. Christian education is building the body of Christ. I want my students to see and know the Master Teacher himself and grow to be more like Him.
