The Discovery Center Program
The Discovery Center is a place for students to receive assistance in the academic areas of reading, math, spelling and writing. We also support students in fluency training by use of the Read Naturally program. Phonics support is also given by using the Wilson training program or Project Read materials.
The program at Timothy Christian Schools consists of a teacher servicing the K-3 students, a teacher servicing 4 -6 students and a part-time middle school teacher serving 7-8 students. The high school has a staff person referred to for academic support. The Discovery Center also recently opened a tutorial center in Villa Park to support students after school.
Two Levels of Service
1. The Discovery level involves the Discovery Center teacher teaching a student in a content area (such as math, reading, English). We do all the teaching, testing, grading and give a report card grade each quarter.
2. The second level of service involves supporting students in areas they need a boost in. We do not give a grade for support areas and the student will be in the general education class for their main instruction. The Discovery Center often supports math, spelling, phonics, test taking, accommodations/modifications and fluency training.
A Biblical Foundation
The Biblical teaching that all of us are children of God and uniquely designed for work in His kingdom, is foundational in our approach with the children. Each child is valued for his/her gifts and developed to their God given potential. In Jeremiah 29:11 it says, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you a hope and a future.”
